וַיַּעֲמֹ֣ד הַ֠מֶּלֶךְ עַֽל־הָ֨עַמּ֜וּד וַיִּכְרֹ֥ת אֶֽת־הַבְּרִ֣ית ׀ לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֗ה לָלֶ֜כֶת אַחַ֤ר יְהוָה֙ וְלִשְׁמֹ֨ר מִצְוֺתָ֜יו וְאֶת־עֵדְוֺתָ֤יו וְאֶת־חֻקֹּתָיו֙ בְּכָל־לֵ֣ב וּבְכָל־נֶ֔פֶשׁ לְהָקִ֗ים אֶת־דִּבְרֵי֙ הַבְּרִ֣ית הַזֹּ֔את הַכְּתֻבִ֖ים עַל־הַסֵּ֣פֶר הַזֶּ֑ה וַיַּעֲמֹ֥ד כָּל־הָעָ֖ם בַּבְּרִֽית׃
Und der König stand auf der Plattform und schloss einen Bund vor dem HERRN, um nach dem HERRN zu wandeln und seine Gebote und seine Zeugnisse und seine Satzungen von ganzem Herzen und von ganzer Seele zu halten, um die Worte zu bestätigen von diesem Bund, der in diesem Buch geschrieben wurde; und das ganze Volk stand zum Bund.

It is customary that all those attending a circumcision, stand throughout the ceremony, for it is said, "And all the people stood in the covenant,"3II Kings 23:3. excepting the sandek, who holds the baby while seated. After the father recites the berachah, Lehachniso, and those assembled answer amein, they all say, "Just as he was initiated into the covenant, so may he be initiated into the study of Torah, to the Chupah, and to the performance of good deeds."
